Dr. Joel R. Gecht

Dr. Gecht has served as the leader of IMPACT Solutions since the firm’s inception in 1981. Together with a team of cutting edge professionals, he offers relationship driven, quality based services and programs to organizations and individuals locally, nationally, and throughout Canada.

Dr. Gecht is a psychologist specializing in the design and implementation of customized behavioral healthcare and related services for colleges, universities, and corporations.  Dr. Gecht has been instrumental in the development of the firm's cutting-edge university support offerings, in support of HR and Student Affairs, the Employee Assistance and Work/Life Program, the Using Stress To Your Advantage™ stress management program, and the Shifting Gears™ transition management series.  He has also created in­novative executive selection and career counseling systems, and specialized Leadership and Team Development programs. Dr. Gecht has served as a consultant to hundreds of organizations throughout the United States and Canada, including colleges, universities, NASA, major banks, medical centers, educational systems, and Fortune 500 companies.

Dr. Gecht routinely works with top-level executives providing consultation, coaching, counseling, and strategic planning assistance.  In his clinical practice, Dr. Gecht treats stress, depression, anxiety, and relationship problems.  He is certified in marriage and family therapy and is skilled in hypnosis, psychodiagnos­tic assessment, testing and sports psychology.  He also treats problems related to psychosomatic illness, phobias, and motivation as well as helping individuals to enhance their self-esteem and performance.

Dr. Gecht frequently serves as a featured speaker before professional, business, and community groups on a variety of subjects and appears often as a background expert for television, radio, and print news media.  He served as staff psychologist for over seven years on WEWS-TV (ABC in Cleveland), during which time he appeared in more than 150 television pro­grams.  Dr. Gecht has also been featured on national radio and television programs.   Dr. Gecht is the author of Amanda Memories, a fictional psychological suspense novel portraying the effects of child sexual abuse on the lives of those people it touches. 

Dr. Gecht’s professional memberships include the American Psychological Association, The College and University Professional Association for Human Resources, the Employee Assistance Society of North America, the Employee Assistance Professionals Association, the American Association for Marital and Family Therapy, and the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis. 

Dr. Gecht taught undergraduate courses in organizational psychology, clinical supervision and psychological testing and assessment at Florida State University and at Northwestern College.  He also served as a specialist in special education for a New York City school district prior to enrollment in his doctoral program at Florida State University.

Dr. Gecht received his B.A. degree from Queens College, of the City University of New York, his M.S. degree from the City College of New York, and his Ph.D. from Florida State University.  He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychological Specialties in Psychological Assessment, Evaluation and Testing.

Dr. Gecht is the father of four sons.  He is an avid sports fan who believes that Cleveland will celebrate a championship team this decade.
